I am often asked what to put on the home page of his site when you are an entrepreneur. It's the place where you often want to put a lot of information, but you have to stay so you don't run away. It is about getting them interested enough to stay on your site and want them to know more by going to your other pages to which you will guide them. I explain how to do this below by detailing the 6 important sections to be inserted:
1. What to put at the top of the home page

At the top of your home page, under the menu of the site, there is what is called the « Hero section » or call area. This is a very important part of your page because this is what your visitors will see first.
Here's what I recommend you do:
– An image which represents what you do: your products staged, or a photo of you working if you sell services (or both),
– Your logo,
– Your tagline or hook which explains in a few striking words what you do and how your services or products are unique.
– One or more action call buttons which will guide your visitors from the start to the elements that may interest them on your site. Indeed, some already know you (for example by following you on your social networks), and want to quickly arrive at your sales page or book a rdv with you.
As a reminder, a call to action button is a button on which your visitors will click to access another place on your site. For example, if it is a button « Contact me », it will take them to your contact form directly.
2. The sentence that introduces your products or services

On the example above, I show you with an arrow what should appear immediately under the Hero section of your home page.
This is a small sentence that introduces your products or services but without going into too much detail. The idea here is to show your visitors that you know exactly what problems they are currently facing and to introduce your products or services that will help them. The ideal is to use the words and vocabulary used by your current prospects or clients if you can.
3. Your products or services

Below the small introductory phrase that introduces your offer or rather the solutions that can help your potential customers, you can put a brief description of what you are proposing.
The ideal again is not to put too many, put an image and possibly a small text for present each product/service in a few words.
Present them by grouping them in categories As in my picture example. For example for a hair salon you can put categories « care », « Colouring » and « cut ». For a beauty shop, it will be something like « Makeup », « creams » and « perfumes ».
Don't forget to put below each category briefly presented a call to action button who will take your visitors to your service page that will describe each category in more detail when they click on it. This prevents you from overloading your home page.
4. Then tell your visitors why they should call on you

For your home page to be convincing, you must now bring Social proof visitors who come to your site and show them why They can trust you. and so consider using you.
You can put in this section:
– testimonies left by your existing customers,
– an extract from your portfolio if you are an artist or photographer for example,
– interviews with you in blogs or press articles about your activity if there are any,
– your latest or most relevant blog posts on the issues encountered by your prospects,
– your qualifications,
– a few words about your journey, especially if you experienced the same difficulties as your prospects before finding a solution (the one you sell).
Since the idea is always not to put too much text on this homepage so as not to cause your visitors to flee, I do not recommend putting all the elements suggested above in this section. Choose only the most relevant for your activity, and detail others elsewhere on your site.
You can also vary formats for me to overload this part (video presentation, images, text, and even audio). Think also of putting only a few examples of all this with always action call buttons to learn more or discover the rest.
5. The subscription form to your newsletter if you have one, and action call buttons all over the page

As explained above, your home page should only say the essential. What will guide your visitors and allow them to learn more about them are: action call buttons on which they will be able to click to access the other more detailed pages of your site.
It's up to you to think about what they're doing on your site: you can set the right buttons that will allow your visitors to act. They can then be spread to the right places on your page. Be careful not to put too much on either, the idea is really to guide them to convince them to interact with you, or to follow you on your networks for example if they are not quite ready to go further.
Another very good way to convince them if they're not ready yet is to offer them a subscribe to your newsletter If you have one. You can offer them a gift (free ebook or other) to motivate them to do so. In this way you will collect valuable e-mail addresses from people interested in what you have to offer that you can gradually convince yourself to buy your products or services with the wise advice you will send them regularly and that will be published on your blog.
Do not neglect this tool because:
1) Blogging is very good to make your website visible and well referenced on the internet,
and 2) these e-mail addresses are a privileged link to people who are really interested in what you do and with whom you will have a stronger link than those who follow you on your social networks because you will write them e-mails that they can read without having the eye drawn to other content.
6. Tell your visitors how to contact you

This may seem obvious, but don't forget to tell your visitors. how they can contact you, in a rather visible or even repetitive way on this home page.
You can for example put a call to action button once or twice on your page that will send them to your contact form or to the page that details your location, email address and social networks.
Also think of putting a clearly visible banner at the bottom of the page with also a button that allows to contact you. Know that it is quite possible also to set this button so that a message opens directly on your visitor's computer with your email address already registered in the part « message recipient ».
I hope this article will help you understand what it is important to put on its home page when you are an entrepreneur. If you don't have to learn one lesson from this article it's that you don't have to put too much information on it, just the essential and then guide those of your visitors who want to know more about certain points that will be specified elsewhere on your site.
